Sailing week in the BVI
We just had a fun week of sailing. Not on Artemis though, she is still en route to the BVI. She has left Lanzarotte in the Canary Islands and is starting the next, final, leg to Tortola in the BVI. She will get there mid December. The delivery crew have been catching plenty of fish for the trip. It looks glorious.
For our part we were on a Lagoon 52 provided by a different sailing charter company.
In short, I am glad I am doing business with TMM. There is a lot to be said for the careful and attentive maintenance program that TMM carries out on all their vessels. The boats go out for charter as prepared as they can be, and customers come back time and time again. Repeat business is the best recommendation. I will not be recommending the company I used this week, nor will I use them again.
Despite that we had some great days sailing, and checking out some of the nicest parts of the BVI. I would recommend:
Dinner at the Cooper Island Beach Club. Tough to get a mooring ball so you either need to book ahead with BoatyBall or get there early, and you certainly need a reservation for dinner.
Coco Maya on Virgin Gorda is well worth a visit. Tapas/family style. We went alongside for the night in Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor and took a taxi. Very easy. Reservation essential.
We had Thanksgiving Dinner in the Clubhouse at the Bitter End Yacht Club. Really good venue now they have rebuilt the Marina and Village post Irma. We took a berth at the Marina there as well - and it was excellent.
Finally the sailing. We had a particularly great sail from the North Sound of Virgin Gorda down through the Sir Francis Drake Channel past Sopers Hole to White Bay. One of the best stretches I have done in the islands. I can well recommend the route.
If all this is getting you excited about doing this for yourself, you know what to do! Get in touch with me directly or go to the Artemis page on the TMM website and check out if you can book Artemis for your version of the same trip. Its a great experience! Hurry though. Next year is booking up fast.
Fair winds!
