Places to go... Coco Maya
We are getting ready for the first trip on Artemis. I’ll blog about that when it happens but as we go through the process of getting our float plan together we are deciding where to go for nights ashore. One particular favorite of ours is Coco Maya, on Virgin Gorda.
Coco Maya, on the southern edge of Spanish Town is a cool mix of South East Asian, Latin and Caribbean cuisine, served ‘tapas style’ in a chic, relaxed and laid back setting. The restaurant is on the beachfront facing west, looking down the Sir Francis Drake channel towards St John. With the right weather conditions you can get a fabulous view of the sunset.
We have never been there without a reservation. The place is always pretty busy so walk-ins are not recommended as far as I am concerned, but with decent planning we have never failed to secure a reservation for when we want it.
Our preference, when we go, is to take a berth in Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor for the night. The marina manager Hannah is super helpful, and despite a predictable stiff offshore breeze, berthing across the wind in the finger jetties is pretty straightforward with her helpful dock masters on hand to assist.
The ride to Coco Maya from the marina is less than 10 mins by taxi. We have always used a guy called Sweet Ice Willie and he reliably gets us to and from the restaurant and the marina for a fair price.
All in all Coco Maya is worth a stop. Add it to your float plan with the added benefit of a visit to the Baths or the Dogs before or after. It’s all good.
